Apraava Energy wins ISTS scheme in Madhya Pradesh

Apraava Energy announced that it has secured a new greenfield interstate transmission system (ISTS) project in Madhya Pradesh, under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism.

In a release, Apraava Energy said that the project involves setting up of around 40 km of 765kV double-circuit transmission lines and a 3,000 MVA substation.

This is Apraava’s third transmission project win within the last 12 months, the release noted.

As part of the Transmission Service Agreement (TSA), the project will be developed by Apraava under BOOT (build, own, operate and transfer) model. The completion timeline is set at 24 months from the date of special purpose vehicle (SPV) transfer.

Apraava Energy will be responsible for the ownership, financing, development, design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the project, and to provide transmission services for a period of 35 years post commercial operation date (COD).

In 2023, Apraava Energy secured two greenfield interstate transmission projects in Rajasthan, involving ~ 250 km of 400kV double circuit transmission lines and a pooling substation of 2,500 MVA to be built as part of the Rajasthan REZ, phase-III, transmission scheme that will enable evacuation of 20 GW of renewable energy in Rajasthan.

According to information available with T&D India but not contained in the subject Apraava Energy release, the ISTS project won by Apraava Energy is housed under project SPV “Karera Transmission Ltd.”  The ISTS scheme housed under this SPV is officially termed as “Western Region Expansion Scheme – XXXIII (WRES – XXXIII): Part B”. The project SPV was formally handed over by bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) to Apraava Energy on February 9, 2024.

Alongside Apraava Energy that ultimately won the project, there were seven qualified bidders in contention – GR Infraprojects, India Grid Trust, Megha Engineering & Infrastructures, Power Grid Corporation of India, Sterlite Power and Techno Electric & Engineering.

Apraava Energy made its debut in the greenfield power transmission space in August 2023, by winning two ISTS schemes, both in Rajasthan – Fatehgarh III Transmission Ltd and Fatehgarh IV Transmission Ltd. (Read more)
