Bajel Projects Ltd has landed an order worth over Rs.200 crore to build two 220kV GIS substations in Mumbai, on EPC basis.
In a release, Mumbai-headquartered Bajel Projects said that it has been awarded a “major” order from an undisclosed entity for the supply and installation of 220kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substations at Salsette and Powai in Mumbai.
The order, as per Bajel’s internal classification policy, qualifies as a “major” order as the order value (inclusive of GST) is in the range of Rs.200 crore to Rs.300 crore.
The order is divided into two packages, as follows:
Package A: 220kV GIS at Salsette Receiving Station. The scope covers the supply and installation of a 220kV GIS at the Salsette receiving station.
Package B: 220kV outdoor GIS Substation at Powai Receiving Station. The scope covers the supply and installation of a 220kV Outdoor GIS substation at the Powai receiving station.
GIS technology needs far lesser space than conventional air-insulated substations. That makes it the preferred choice for dense urban load centres like Mumbai, where land is scarce and demand keeps rising. Together, the two substations will add capacity and reliability to the city’s transmission network, the release noted.
Highest quality standards
Rajesh Ganesh, Managing Director & CEO, Bajel Projects Ltd, commenting on the order win, said, “We are proud to contribute to strengthening Mumbai’s power infrastructure. Building high-voltage GIS substations inside a working metropolis calls for precise engineering, tight site planning and uncompromising safety, and this order reflects the confidence our clients place in Bajel’s execution capabilities. Mumbai city’s growing power needs demand a grid that is resilient and future-ready, and we are committed to delivering both projects to the highest standards of quality.”
