Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has received an order valued at around Rs.4,000 crore (net of GST) from Adani Power Ltd.
In a stock exchange communication, BHEL said that the order relates to construction of the 2×800-mw Raigarh (Phase II) thermal power plant of Adani Power Ltd at Raigarh in Chhattisgarh.
The order covers supply of equipment (boiler, turbine and generator, or BTG) and supervision of erection & commissioning for the stated 2×800-mw coal-fired power project, which is based on supercritical technology.
BHEL said that the boilers (steam generators) will be manufactured at the Trichy facility in Tamil Nadu while the turbine-generators will be produced at the Haridwar plant in Uttarakhand.
Apart from the core BTG package, the order also covers associated auxiliaries, along with control & instrumentation (C&I), BHEL said.
BHEL added that Unit-1 is scheduled to be commissioned in 31 months, followed by Unit-2 in 35 months, from the “zero date” envisaged in the contract.
Agreement with Reliance Power
In an independent development, Mahan Energen Ltd (MEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for 500 mw with Reliance Industries Ltd, under the Captive User policy as defined under the Electricity Rules, 2005.
One unit of 600 mw capacity of MEL’s Mahan thermal power plant, out of its aggregate operating and upcoming capacity of 2,800 mw, will be designated as the Captive Unit for this purpose.
In order to avail the benefit of this policy, RIL has to hold a 26 per cent ownership stake in the captive unit in proportion to the total capacity of the power plant. It will accordingly invest in 5,00,00,000 equity shares of MEL, aggregating to Rs.50 crore for the proportionate ownership stake. This development brings between two corporates an exclusive arrangement for 500 mw of power purchase by Reliance Industries on long term basis, Adani Power said.
