“Electricity Safety Week” launched in Maharashtra

To sensitize and to propagate the message of safe electrical practices, Chief Electrical Inspectorate of Maharashtra in association with Industry stakeholders including International Copper Association India (ICA India) is organising Electrical Safety Week between January 11, 2018 and January 17, 2018 . The Safety Week is aimed to outline the provisions of safety regulation with the new technological developments, problems and challenges in implementing the regulation and to ensure the safety of electrical installation and the user of electricity.

Electricity by defaults have been seen as the largest single reason for cause of electrical accidents. The government of Maharashtra has accorded high importance to this area. Unfortunately,due to ignorance/negligence about safe electrical practices, improper and weak installations, undersized and inferior quality of wires result in an increasing number of electrical accidents.

Each year there is a heavy loss of life and damage to property as a result of electrical-related incidents and fires.Many electrical fatalities and injuries that occur each year can be overcome through understanding of safe electrical practices.

The objective of this Safety Week is to create awareness about electrical safety among stakeholders and people, and sensitise them on how to mitigate risks in such situations.

S R Bagde, Chief Electrical Inspector to Government of Maharashtra, emphasized for higher safety practices, measures to reduce the electrical accidents and the need for awareness programmes, which is both industry friendly and easily understandable for the common man. Thus, the safety week provides a platform to discuss the key issues related to electrical safety in the State of Maharashtra. It will also help in implementing standards and regulations of electrical infrastructure in Maharashtra.

Elaborating on the subject Sanjeev Ranjan, Managing Director, International Copper Association India (ICA India) said, all participants should come together to share experiences and interact with concern Electrical Safety officials about best practices and understand the need for regular and timely inspection of all Electrical Installation.
