Finolex Cables introduces Magnex 7.5-kA switchgear range

Finolex Cables Ltd has announced the launch of its Magnex 7.5 kA switchgear family covering a new range of circuit protection products for residential and commercial applications.

Built on Finolex’s long-standing expertise in the electrical industry, the range is designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s consumers, Finolex Cables said in a release.

The Magnex family comprises miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), isolators and distribution boxes. The company is also introducing a new range of accessories, including MCB changeover switches and a rotary selector switch.

Technological innovation

Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Viswanathan, Chief Executive Officer, Finolex Cables Ltd, said, “The launch of our Magnex 7.5 kA Switchgear Range reflects our continued commitment to technological innovation and customer-centric solutions. With Magnex, we aim to provide protection along with greater confidence to consumers while reinforcing our commitment to quality and excellence. This launch is another step in our journey towards shaping the future of modern living through reliable and innovative electrical solutions.”

Bridging the ratings gap

Finolex entered the switchgear segment in 2016, with products manufactured at its Roorkee plant in Uttarakhand. The new Magnex 7.5 kA family bridges the gap between 6 kA and 10 kA products while delivering higher breaking capacity, enhanced protection and greater value for retail customers.

Features

Engineered with copper + silver-inlay contacts for reliable contact performance, thermal plus magnetic tripping for overload and short-circuit response, finger-safe terminal design for safer handling, high endurance for dependable service life, and reversible line/load terminals for installation flexibility.

The range features an optimised breaking capacity of 7.5 kA, in line with IEC 60898-1 and IS/IEC 60898-1, enabling the MCBs to interrupt prospective fault currents within their specified ratings. Energy limitation Class 3 restricts let-through energy during a short circuit, reducing thermal and mechanical stress on cables and connected equipment. Thermal and magnetic tripping mechanisms respond to sustained overloads and short circuits respectively.

For installers, biconnect terminals and line-load reversibility allow quicker, more flexible connections, and laser marking provides durable identification and traceability. The combination of functional design and practical features makes the range ideal for residential and commercial electrical installations.
