GE Vernova T&D India Ltd has emerged L1 in a tender of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) relating to the newly-acquired Barmer HVDC scheme.
In a regulatory disclosure, GE Vernova T&D India Ltd (GEVTDIL) said that PCGIL has issued a letter intimating GEVTDIL as the L1 bidder for design and establishment of 6,000 MW, ±800kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) LCC Terminal Station (2×3000 MW) for evacuation of renewable power from Barmer II to South Kalamb.
The disclosure did not specify the size of the contract but said that the contract would be executed over multiple years.
The contract relates to the Barmer HVDC scheme for which PGCIL was recently issued the letter of intent. (Read tndindia.com story dated September 5, 2026)
The contract would involve building of two HVDC terminals, based on LCC configuration, one each at Barmer II (Rajasthan) and South Kalamb (Maharashtra), as part of the ±800kV HVDC system with a transfer capacity of 6,000 MW.
In a typical HVDC contract, the HVDC terminal stations are awarded to specialized HVDC suppliers, while the associated transmission line is awarded, through multiple packages in view of the massive length, to prominent EPC players catering to the extra-high voltage class.

The Barmer project under discussion is the fourth ISTS-TBCB scheme involving HVDC technology, awarded so far. HVDC terminal suppliers for the first three HVDC projects include:
