GIS substation inaugurated in Jaipur, under IPDS

GIS PFC | T&D India

State power discom Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (JVVNL) recently commissioned a GIS substation at Jaipur, making it the first GIS substation in Rajasthan.

The 33/11kV GIS (gas insulated switchgear) substation was commissioned under the Centrally-sponsored Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for which Power Finance Corporation (PFC) is the nodal agency.

The GIS substation inaugurated within the premises of the Janana Hospital in state capital Jaipur was built with an investment of Rs.8 crore.

The new installation will benefit close to 5,000 households in the surrounding area of Chandpol in Jaipur with efficient power supply. The substation is SCADA enabled and the functioning of the GIS substation can be controlled by the central control room from remote location, a release from PFC said.

RT-DAS under IPDS in Andhra Pradesh

In a related but independent development, Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd recently inaugurated the RT-DAS (Real-Time Data Acquisition system) control system under the IPDS scheme.

The project, which was sanctioned in December 2018, was completed in September 2021 at a cost of Rs.4.80 crore.  RT-DAS has been implemented in 116 substations of 33/11kV capacity and 437 feeders of 11kV capacity that will cater to 36 IPDS town areas.

The required hardware/equipment feeder permitted terminal unit (FRTU Panels), multifunction transducers (MFTs), etc were installed for all the 11kV feeders. By implementing the RT-DAS project in APEPDCL, the real-time data (voltage, current, power, planned and unplanned interruptions) from 11kV town feeders will be available for measurement of SAIDI/SAIFI in all 33/11kV substations of 36 RAPDRP and IPDS non-SCADA towns (excluding Visakhapatnam).

The major highlight of this system is that just by having a glance at the RT-DAS dashboard, the management will be able to know the current situation about the power supply in all the 437 feeders of the discom. It will also enable the discom to understand whether a particular feeder is down due to a fault, thereby leading to an unplanned outage or planned maintenance activity, a release from PFC said.
