IEEMA inaugurates 16th edition of “T&D Conclave”

The Indian Electrical & Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA), on December 15, 2023, inaugurated the 16th edition of the T&D Conclave at New Delhi.

Speaking at the T&D Conclave, Guest of Honor, Ajay Mathur, Director General, International Solar Alliance, highlighted the rapid pace of growth being witnessed by the sector and said, “Very conservatively, I expect transmission growth of approximately 5 per cent a year till 2050, it’s a different matter if it will be between a renewable energy plant or fossil fuel plant that we will have to see, the key issue is as the demand for electricity grows in our homes as well as in our industry and offices we will need more and more transmission capacity to meet those demands.”

Mathur laid emphasis on key drivers of growth in the medium term, “The first is the need to quickly meet the energy needs of all our citizens who do not have access to energy and electricity the second equally important is the fact that we want to move towards the world which is driven by zero carbon emission electricity generation. We will see a very different nature of both of demand and of the kinds of supply of places where the supply will develop,”  noted Mathur.

Abundant opportunities

Hamza Arsiwala, President, IEEMA spoke about critical role of the transmission and distribution industry in the power Sector and its role in helping India become the third largest economy in the world, “India is on the path of becoming the third largest economy with a focus on infrastructure and power is an integral part of which the most critical is the T&D sector which is transmission and distribution and the construction of the whole grid where we are actually constructing a parallel grid due to the focus of the renewables out of the net zero movement. Besides the great opportunity of investment through RDSS and other schemes in T&D from the conventional T&D the renewable sector itself presents a massive opportunity for the parallel grid. Besides the conventional T&D there’s a lot of opportunities in railways, data centres and smart cities and going beyond also in the defence, it’s a really exciting time.”
