IEX achieves 16 per cent growth in trading volumes in January 2022

Indian Energy Exchange achieved 8,652 MU of trading volume in January 2022, registering a 16 per cent growth over that in January 2021.

A release from IEX noted that the total trading volume of 8652 MU in January 2022 included 7,245 MU in the conventional power market, 280 MU in the green power market and 1,126 MU in the REC Market.

The Day-ahead Market volume at 5,280 MU saw a 5 per cent year-on-year decline whereas the average market clearing price at Rs.3.39 per unit in January 2022 saw a 6.7 per cent year-on-year increase and a 4.1 per cent decline over December 2021.

The Term-ahead Market comprising intra-day, contingency, daily & weekly contracts traded 390 MU during January 2022 – up 11.6 per cent over December 2021.

The Real-time electricity Market achieved 1,575 MU volume and saw a significant 28 per cent year-on-year growth with the average monthly price at Rs.3.44 per unit. The highest single-day volume of 75 MU was achieved on January 7, 2022.

 

Green Market

IEX Green Market comprises of both the day-ahead as well term-ahead market segments.   The Market achieved 280 MU volume in both segments during January’22.

The Green Day-Ahead Market (GDAM) has been gaining traction among the distribution utilities and industrial consumers. Since commencement in October 2021, the segment achieved the highest ever volume of 198 MU in January 2022 with the weighted average price of Rs.4.19 per unit with participation from 160 participants.

The Green Term-Ahead Market (GTAM) achieved 82 MU volume during January 2022 with participation from 44 participants. The average monthly price in the market segment for solar was Rs.3.59 per unit while the average monthly price for non-solar was Rs 3.96 per unit.

Key distribution utilities from states including Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Daman & Diu, and Bihar as well as several industrial consumers participated in the Exchange’s Green Market during January 2022, the IEX release said.

 

The next REC trading session at IEX is scheduled on Wednesday February 23, 2022.

REC Market

A total of 11.26 lakh Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) were cleared in the trading session held on January 27, 2022. The volume comprised 9.33 lakh non-solar RECs with clearing price at Rs 1,000 per REC and 1.93 lacs solar REC with clearing price at Rs.2,300 per REC.
