Mecpower Solutions and Navitas Solar to jointly put up BESS mfg facility in Gujarat

Mecpower Solutions and Navitas Solar have announced a strategic collaboration to establish a 5-GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Karjan, Gujarat.

Expected to commence operations in the first quarter of FY28, the facility will strengthen domestic battery storage manufacturing capabilities while supporting the growing demand for integrated energy storage solutions across India’s renewable energy sector, a company release said.

The collaboration brings together Mecpower Solutions’ strengths in renewable energy project development, engineering, and execution and Navitas Solar’s integrated manufacturing expertise. Building on a longstanding business relationship across solar and renewable energy projects, the partnership marks a significant step towards creating a robust energy storage ecosystem that supports India’s clean energy transition.

The proposed facility is envisioned as a platform that combines manufacturing, project deployment, and system integration capabilities. By leveraging their respective strengths, Mecpower Solutions and Navitas Solar aim to develop scalable battery storage solutions tailored to utility-scale, commercial, and industrial renewable energy applications.

Battery energy storage systems are increasingly becoming a critical component of renewable energy infrastructure, helping address intermittency challenges, improve grid stability, and enable more efficient utilisation of renewable power.

Commenting on the development, Setul Shah, Director, Mecpower Solutions Ltd said, “Our proposed 5 GWh manufacturing facility in Karjan represents a strategic step towards strengthening our capabilities across the energy storage value chain.”

According to Ankit Singhania, Director, Navitas Solar, “Through this collaboration, we aim to extend our manufacturing capabilities into a strategically important segment of the energy transition and contribute to the development of scalable storage solutions for India’s power sector.”

Through this collaboration, both companies seek to contribute to the development of indigenous energy storage capabilities that align with India’s long-term renewable energy ambitions, the release added.
