Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL or MP Transco) has successfully commissioned and energized a 200 MVA power transformer at the 220kV Govindpura substation, meant to serve the Bhopal Metro rail project.
In a release, MPPTCL said that based on the technical planning, system studies, and substation layout optimization carried out by the Planning and Design Department of MPPTCL, a 200-MVA capacity power transformer has been installed and successfully energized at the 220kV Govindpura Substation in Bhopal for the Bhopal Metro project.
With the energization of this power transformer, stable, safe, and reliable electricity supply of the required capacity will be ensured for the Subhash Nagar station of the Bhopal Metro. This will help maintain uninterrupted metro operations and enhance overall system reliability, the release said.
The installation of the 200 MVA power transformer at the Govindpura Substation, located in the central part of Bhopal city, was a complex technical task due to limited availability of land, the need to keep existing equipment operational, and strict adherence to safety standards.
Engineers from MPPTCL’s Planning & Design Department reassessed the substation layout and carried out the necessary modifications, making it possible to complete the installation in compliance with all technical and safety norms.
Congratulating the officers and personnel of MPPTCL on the successful completion of this important work, Madhya Pradesh Energy Minister Pradyumn Singh Tomar described it as a significant step toward strengthening the power supply system for the Bhopal Metro.
Additional Chief Engineer of MPPTCL, Rajesh Shandilya, informed that this work has been completed as “deposit work” under the Bhopal Metro project, the release said.
Bhopal Metro
It is independently learnt that a 7-km stretch, referred to as the “Priority Corridor” of the Orange Line of the Bhopal Metro project, turned operational on December 21, 2025. This elevated corridor runs from AIIMS to Subhash Nagar, featuring eight elevated stations en route. The overall Orange Line will be a 15-km stretch, partly underground, running from Karond Circle to AIIMS, with 16 stations.
The Orange Line is part of Bhopal Metro (Phase I) project that also entails a “Blue Line” – a 13-km elevated corridor from Bhadbhada Square to Ratnagiri Tiraha, with 14 stations.
