IREDA Auction | T&D India

Central PSUs NTPC and SJVN have recorded big project wins in the recently concluded CPSU Scheme II (Tranche III) auction conducted by nodal agency IREDA.

In independent communications, NTPC and SJVN said that they have won capacities of 1.9 GW and 1 GW, respectively, in the CPSU Scheme-II (Tranche III) of the 5-GW auction conducted by Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).

IRCON International also won 500 mw under the same auction. (Read more).

NTPC said that this capacity of 1.9 GW (or 1,900 mw) will avoid CO2 emissions of over 3 million tonnes per year. NTPC was the single-largest capacity winner in this auction. With this capacity, NTPC now has a total capacity of 6.3 GW won through competitive bidding.

“This shall pave the way for NTPC’s plan of 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032,” NTPC said in a statement.

SJVN Ltd won 1 GW (or 1,000 mw) worth of capacity quoting a (maximum) tariff of Rs.2.45 per kwh. The total project cost is estimated at Rs.5,500 crore  that includes a viability gap funding (VGF) of Rs.44.72 lakh per mw. This translates to a total VGF of Rs.447.20 crore.

With this project, SJVN now has a total of 1,345 mw of solar projects under execution. All these projects are scheduled to commission by end of FY24.

As far as operational clean energy capacity is concerned, SJVN has a total portfolio of 2016.5 mw, including two hydropower projects (1,912 mw), two solar plants (6.9 mw) and two wind power plants (97.6 mw).

Under the CPSU-Scheme II auction, which is open to only Central PSUs, bidders are selected on the basis of e-reverse auction. The Central government will provide assistance by way of VGF. Further, power generated through these projects will be for self-use (by Central PSUs) or by other government entities – either directly or through discoms.

CPSU Scheme-II
