Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has announced that it has fully commissioned an ISTS-TBCB scheme “Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III, Part C1.”
In a brief stock exchange filing, PGCIL said the said scheme, housed under its TBCB subsidiary “Powergrid Ramgarh II Transmission Ltd” was completely commissioned on September 22, 2026 for which the notification for commercial operation (date of commercial operation or DOCO) stands at October 7, 2026.
PGCIL won this scheme under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism and acquired the project SPV on October 26, 2023.
Here are basic details on the scheme, as available with tndindia.com:
Project SPV: Powergrid Ramgarh II Transmission Ltd, since amalgamated with another TBCB subsidiary of PGCIL, “Powergrid Vataman Transmission Ltd. [The project SPV was incorporated on April 20, 2022, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd]

Key project elements
The Ramgarh II scheme under discussion involved putting up the new Ramgarh pooling station (PS) in Rajasthan, equipped with 765/400kV, 2×1500 MVA and 400/220kV, 2×500 MVA interconnecting transformers, with a total transformation capacity of 4,000 MVA. The Ramgarh PS has been connected to the Bhadla-III PS (also in Rajasthan) through a 765kV double-circuit line running around 372 ckm, with 467 tower locations. The Ramgarh PS is equipped with 2×300 MVAr STATCOM (static synchronous compensator) with 4×125 MVAr MSC (mechanically-switched capacitors), 2×125 MVAr MSR (mechanically-switched reactors).
Project progress
While the Ramgarh PS and the Ramgarh-Bhadla-III line discussed above, were commissioned in February 2026, the STATCOM installation was completed recently, leading to an overall project completion date of September 22, 2026. The date of commercial operations (DOCO) stands at October 7, 2026, as discussed above. It may be noted that the Ramgarh PS (without the STATCOM) and the Ramgarh-Bhadla-III line was scheduled for commissioning in 18 months, which is by April 26, 2025, and the STATCOM in 24 months, which is by September 26, 2025. The pooling station and the line were therefore delayed by around 10 months, and the overall project by 12 months.
Overarching 20-GW scheme
The Ramgarh-II scheme under discussion is part of a massive scheme — “Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III” — aiming at evacuating 20 GW of RE power from Rajasthan. The overarching scheme has around 17 components, including nine that have been awarded as independent schemes under the TBCB route.
