PGCIL wins SR-WR interregional scheme under TBCB

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has won an ISTS scheme “Interregional strengthening between SR Grid and WR Grid” under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework.

In a brief stock exchange filing dated September 30, 2025, PGCIL said that it received the letter of intent for this scheme on September 29, 2025.

The project comprises 765kV double-circuit transmission lines traversing Karnataka and Maharashtra, along with associated line bays at both ends, the filing said.

As reported by tndindia.com on September 23, 2025, PGCIL was in the race for this scheme alongside five other bidders. Details on the wining tariff and the bidders that made it to the final e-reverse auction (e-RA) stage are, however, not yet available.

The project, as the name suggests, entails improving the interregional transfer between the SR and WR grids. This would be achieved by a new 765kV double-circuit line between Parli New substation (Maharashtra, WR) to Bidar Pooling Station (Karnataka, SR). This line, of approximate length 240 ckm, will be equipped with 765kV, 240 MVAR SLR (switchable line reactors) on both circuits at the Bidar PS end.

The project has been housed under project SPV “SR WR Power Transmission Ltd,” which is currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL). This SPV will be formally transferred to PGCIL in due course.

Eventful September

For PGCIL, September 2025 has proved very eventful with the Central PSU winning as many as four ISTS-TBCB schemes, including SR WR Power Transmission discussed in this story. Earlier in September, PGCIL was declared successful bidder for Robertsganj Power Transmission Ltd, Vindhyachal Varanasi Transmission Ltd and Mandsaur I RE Transmission Ltd.

Besides, PGCIL formally acquired “Davanagere Power Transmission Ltd” from RECPCDL on September 24, 2025, for which it was declared successful bidder on August 27, 2025.

Cumulative FY26 achievement

PGCIL’s cumulative ISTS-TBCB achievement for H1FY26 (April 1, 2025 to September 30, 2025) stands at six wins, inclusive of two formal SPV transfers. In June 2025, PGCIL formally acquired an ISTS-TBCB scheme incorporated under the SPV “MEL Power Transmission Ltd” from bid process coordinator PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL). This SPV has since been renamed to “Powergrid Mahan Rewa Transmission Ltd.”
