PGCIL’s joint venture with KETRACO incorporated in Kenya

A special purpose vehicle for implementation of the “Kenya Transmission PPP Project,” jointly promoted by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) and Africa50, has been incorporated in Kenya.

In a brief stock exchange filing, PGCIL said that the SPV “Mwanga Transmission Company Ltd” was incorporated in Kenya on April 21, 2026. It will have PGCIL holding 40 per cent equity with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (KETRACO) being the majority shareholder with 60 per cent stake.

The incorporation of this SPV follows the project agreement reached with KETRACO for the implementation of the Kenya Independent Power Transmission Project under the public private partnership (PPP) framework.

As reported by tndindia.com on December 17, 2025, KETRACO signed a PPP agreement with a consortium comprising Africa50 and PGCIL, for expansion and modernization of Kenya’s power transmission network.
