Premier Energies is set to formally inaugurate its new solar cell and module manufacturing facility at Hyderabad on July 29, 2021.

The formal inauguration of this new plant is scheduled to be done at the hands of Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development of Telangana, K. T. Rama Rao

Built with an investment of Rs.483 crore, the new manufacturing unit, a greenfield project with a capacity of 750 MW solar cell and 750 MW solar module, will produce MCCE textured multi-crystalline cells and modules, Mono PERC cells and modules as well as 19.2% efficiency polycrystalline cells and modules.

The plant has been designed to produce latest generation products by incorporating Monocrystalline PERC technology. This technology will usher change by increasing the wafer size to 182 mm and 210 mm.

Speaking on the new facility, Surender Pal Singh, Founder and Chairman, Premier Energies said, “The plant is a significant milestone in the evolution of solar technology and will help us lead the change in the power sector in India by helping the industry switch to cleaner renewable power sources.”

The ISO 9001/ ISO 14001 certified manufacturing facility uses state-of-the-art production systems such as TQC (Total Quality Control) and SPC (Statistical Process Control) quality control. This launch will therefore increase the availability of highest quality ‘Made in India’ solar cells aligned to the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, a release from Premier Energies said.

Chiranjeev Saluja, Founder and Managing Director, Premier Energies (pictured) noted,  “With increased adoption of automation and robotics, our new factory will be at par with some of the leading manufacturing companies in Asia, Europe, and USA, producing world-class products. With this launch, we have further strengthened our product portfolio which caters to a wide range of customers.”

Further expansion

Addressing the media at a virtual media conference, Chiranjeev Saluja noted that Premier Energies eventually intends to have a total integrated annual capacity of 3 GW comprising of solar cells and modules.

Currently, the company’s capacity stands at 0.75 GW for solar cells and 1.25 GW for modules. The additional capacity envisaged therefore works out to 2.25 GW for solar cells and 1.75 GW for solar modules, Saluja said.

The proposed additional capacity would entail an investment of around Rs.1,200 crore, and would be commissioned over the next 2-3 years, he said.  The entire envisaged additional capacity would be set up at Hyderabad, Saluja noted.

With its current annual capacity, Premier Energies is believed to be the second largest integrated manufacturer of solar cells and modules.
