PTC India has entered into MoUs with SJVN for sale of power from upcoming domestic and international hydropower projects of SJVN.
The first MoU was formalized between PTC India and SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt Ltd (SAPDC), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd. The MoU’s objective is for sale of hydropower from SAPDC’s Arun-3 and Lower Arun hydropower project in Nepal, on long-term basis to utilities and consumers in India.
SAPDC is setting up the following two hydroelectric projects in Nepal:
- Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project (4×225 mw = 900 mw) located in Sankhuwasabha district of Province-I, scheduled to commence commercial operation in year 2023-24
- Lower Arun Hydroelectric Project (4×167.25 mw = 669 mw) located in Sankhuwasabha District of Province-I, which is scheduled to commence commercial operation in year 2027-28.
PTC shall assist SAPDC for sale of power from these projects to state utilities, discoms, bulk consumers, etc in India on long-term basis (15 years to 25 years). PTC shall also endeavor to sell any untied capacity on medium/short term basis or on power exchanges.
MoU for Indian project
The second MoU was between PTC India and SJVN Ltd, associated with the upcoming 60-mw Naitwar Mori hydropower project in Uttarakhand.
SJVNL is setting up the 60 mw (2×30 mw) run-off-the-river Naitwar Mori Hydroelectric project in Uttarkashi District of Uttarakhand. The project is expected to achieve commercial operation this year and the power sold by this project shall also qualify for Hydro Purchase Obligation (HPO).
Under this MoU, PTC shall assist SJVNL by providing its market expertise to sell its power under various opportunities to state utilities, discoms and consumers.

Hydro mix
“The MoU with SAPDC is a milestone and will enable supply of 3000 mw of SJVNL’s hydropower from Nepal to India by 2030 which will help in improving the hydro mix in the country and also stabilizing the grid as well as better control in managing the peak demand,” Dr. Rajib K. Mishra, CMD (Additional Charge), PTC India, said in an official release.
PPA for floating solar project in MP
In an independent development, a power purchase agreement for the upcoming 90-mw floating solar project in Madhya Pradesh was signed between SJVN Green Energy Ltd, Madhya Pradesh. Power Management Company Ltd and Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd. The floating solar project is being developed by SJVN Green Energy Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN Ltd, at Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh. The project was bagged at a tariff of Rs.3.26 per kwh on build, own, operate basis under the tariff-based competitive bidding mechanism conducted by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd. The tentative project cost is Rs.585 crore and it shall be commissioned in a period of 15 months from the signing of PPA.
