Sembcorp Energy India, Azure Power clinch wind projects in SECI auction

Sembcorp Energy India and Azure Power have independently won wind power projects in a recent auction by Solar Energy Corporation India (SECI) under the 1,200 mw ISTS Tranche-XI tender. This is the same tender in which Adani Green Energy won 450 mw worth of wind power capacity.

Sembcorp Industries’ wholly owned subsidiary in India has been awarded 180-mw wind power capacity. The letter of award has been received by Green Infra Wind Energy Ltd. Like the Azure Power’s project, this project too will come up in Karnataka. Generation from this wind farm will be sold to SECI under a 25-year period PPA.

It may be mentioned that Sembcorp in 2020 completed the commissioning of 800 mw of wind projects won from the first three SECI bids. With the win of 180 mw wind power project, Sembcorp’s total capacity of installed and under construction renewable energy assets in India is more than 2.3 GW.

Azure Power has won 120-mw wind power capacity at a tariff of Rs.2.70 per kwh. The project will come up in Karnataka and to be set up within 18 months from signing of the PPA.

Significantly, for solar power-centric Azure Power, this is the company’s first wind power project.
