Suzlon founder Tulsi Tanti named IWTMA chairman

Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association announced the appointment of Tulsi Tanti, as its chairman, effective January 11, 2018.

Regarded as the ‘Wind Man of India’ and a pivotal part of the global renewable energy industry, Tulsi Tanti, Founder & Chairman of Suzlon Energy, leads the development of public policy for energy use and advises on policy issues with active participation from various industry bodies. A visionary and world renowned expert on clean energy, he champions the cause of affordable and sustainable  energy. Tulsi Tanti spearheaded the wind revolution in India with the founding of Suzlon Energy in 1995. He is committed to enabling energy security and affordability, whereby the benefit of clean, renewable and reliable energy reaches every sector, an official release said.

Tulsi Tanti is confident that India will surpass the government target of 60 GW of wind power capacity, much before 2022.

Speaking on his appointment, Tulsi Tanti, Founder & Chairman, Suzlon Energy said,  “I am honored to be selected as Chairman of the association and look forward to further collaborate with the industry to drive the next phase of wind energy revolution in India. With cumulative wind installations of over 32 GW, the industry is ahead of the 30 GW target set by government until FY17. I am confident we will surpass the government target of 60 GW much before 2022.  The wind industry is determined and focused on enabling India’s Energy Security, Affordable Energy for all and transition to a low-carbon economy. Additionally, the wind industry’s commitment towards of the Make in India and job creation is unwavering.  I firmly believe Technology and innovation will remain the catalyst in this endeavor. India’s shift to Renewable Energy as a priority has laid the foundation to unlock 300 GW wind energy potential in the country.”

IWTMA is in existence over 20 years and has played a critical role of an important stakeholder in the wind power industry development. IWTMA interacts with the Central Government and wind states on Policy framework and regulatory intervention.  The wind turbine manufacturing base in India has an annual manufacturing capacity of over 10 GW.
