Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Ltd [TARIL] has announced an investment of Rs.1,250 crore to establish three greenfield manufacturing plants, as part of its plan to localize and secure the company’s supply chain.
In a release, TARIL said that these facilities are being put up at its Chiyada manufacturing complex in Gujarat, and will include:
- Transformer bushings (OIP, RIP & RIF up to 800kV)
- Pressboard and insulation material
- Continuously transposed conductors (CTC)
The bushing manufacturing facility will produce oil impregnated paper (OIP), resin impregnated paper (RIP) and resin impregnated fibre (RIF) bushings up to 800kV, among the most technologically advanced components used in extra-high-voltage transformers. Together with the pressboard & insulation, and CTC facilities, the plants will significantly strengthen TARIL’s vertically integrated manufacturing ecosystem and reinforce India’s capability to manufacture critical power equipment components domestically.
By localising the manufacturing of these critical components, TARIL aims to reduce import dependence, strengthen supply chain resilience and improve the availability of critical equipment required for India’s rapidly expanding transmission and distribution network.
Targeted by Q1FY28
The three plants will be housed under a wholly-owned consolidated ancillary subsidiary of TARIL, providing complete control over manufacturing quality, technology, procurement and long-term strategic direction. Construction of these facilities commenced in December 2025, with commercial operations expected to begin in Q1FY28 (April to June 2027).
Once fully operational, the facilities are expected to generate an annual revenue potential of approximately Rs.2,000 crore while creating more than 1,000 direct employment opportunities across engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality assurance and research & development.
Reducing import dependence
Speaking on the announcement, Jitendra Mamtora, Chairman, TARIL, said: “Our investment is aligned with this national vision by strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities for critical transformer components, reducing import dependence and contributing to a resilient power infrastructure ecosystem built in India, for India and the world.”
Greater control
According to Satyen Mamtora, Managing Director & CEO, TARIL, “This investment represents far more than a capacity expansion, it is a strategic move towards deep vertical integration. Manufacturing Bushings, Pressboard & Insulation materials and CTC in-house will provide greater control over quality, lead times and operational efficiency while improving supply chain resilience. As India’s demand for transformers continues to grow, we are building an integrated manufacturing platform capable of supporting the country’s evolving power infrastructure requirements while creating sustainable long-term value for customers, shareholders and the nation.”
