Voltamp Transformers Ltd has proposed to put up a new manufacturing facility for dry-type transformers at Vadodara in Gujarat.
In a release, Voltamp said that the facility will have annual manufacturing capacity of 2,300 MVA and will entail capital expenditure of Rs.90 crore. This will be funded through internal cash accruals.
Voltamp has already executed the land purchase agreement for a new plot of land at Vadodara, and requisite government approvals are expected to be in place by September 2026.
Construction on the new plant, expected to begin shortly after getting approvals, will take around 12-14 months to complete. As reported by tndindia.com on May 5, 2026, Voltamp was in the process of acquiring a plot of land at Vadodara, valued at around Rs.25 crore, from Pramukh Developers.
Voltamp currently manufactures dry-type transformers at its Savli facility in Gujarat but capacity expansion at this location was not feasible, prompting the need for a new location. The company said that in view of the increased demand for transformers projected over the next 5-6 years, it had become imperative to expand capacity of dry-type transformers.
EHV transformer factory
Voltamp expects that its upcoming greenfield EHV transformer factory to start full-fledged operations from October 2026. The company said that while construction was completed within the scheduled timeline and major plant and machinery installed as per schedule, delays in the delivery of few equipment imported by vendors impacted the overall project completion schedule. This has resulted in an overall delay of around two months.
According to information previously released by the company, the plant is coming up at Jarod in Vadodara district, with an estimated outlay of Rs.200 crore, to be financed by internal accruals. It will have annual manufacturing capacity of 6,000 MVA in the first phase, for power transformers in the 220kV class up to 250 MVA capacity.
Existing capacity
Currently, Voltamp has its manufacturing sites located at Makarpura and Savli, both in Vadodara district, Gujarat. These have aggregate manufacturing capacity of around 14,000 MVA per year. Power transformers of up to 160 MVA, 220kV are produced at Makarpura while the Savli facilities are for distribution transformers, dry-type transformers, ring main units and compact substations.
Order inflow
Voltamp Transformers opened FY27 with an opening order book of Rs.1,200 crore (10,270 MVA in physical terms), as of April 1, 2026. During the current fiscal year so far, which is from April 1, 2026 to July 31, 2026, the company saw fresh order inflow of Rs.1,142 crore (or 7,775 MVA), thereby providing revenue visibility of Rs.2,342 crore (or 18,045 MVA in physical terms).
