Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has worked out the additional charge for Open Access (OA) consumers, for the period October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022, at Rs.0.51 per kwh.

This additional surcharge will be applicable for those consumers of four state government-owned discoms – DGVCL, MGVCL, PGVCL and UGVCL – who avail power through Open Access from any source other than their respective discom.

Background

It may be mentioned that through its order dated March 12, 2014, GERC had decided applicability and methodology of additional surcharge to the OA consumers, after consultation with all stakeholders.

This additional surcharge is to be determined on the basis of data furnished by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) and by using a formula depicted in the aforementioned GERC order. This surcharge is worked out for six-monthly periods (October 1 to March 31) and (April 1 to September 30). The data used for the calculation of additional surcharge for a six-monthly period pertains to the same period of the previous year.

Accordingly, GUVNL submitted data for the period October 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, for determination of additional surcharge for the period of October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Using the formula depicted in its order dated March 12, 2014, GERC worked out the additional surcharge to be Rs.0.51 per kwh for the period October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

(Note: The four Gujarat state-owned discoms abbreviated in this story stand for Dakshin, Madhya, Paschim and Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Ltd)
