Linxon has successfully commissioned Adani Transmission’s first 400kV GIS substation, located in Uttar Pradesh.

In a release, Linxon said that this gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substation, located at Badaun, was commissioned for Obra-C Badaun Transmission Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Transmission Ltd.

This project has been constructed to transmit power from the 2×660-mw Obra-C Thermal Power Plant to associated transmission lines and will help strengthen the grid.

Linxon’s scope included design, engineering, installation, testing and commissioning of the entire 400/220/132 kV switchyard (30 bays) including all civil works.

The substation, energized through the double circuit 400kV Roza–Badaun line, came into operation in April 2021.

With completion of this project, 950 MVA will be added to the installed base. The operation of the 400kV substation at Badaun will allow the reliable and efficient transmission of electricity within Uttar Pradesh, Linxon said.

“We wish to congratulate Obra-C Badaun Transmission Ltd on this successful commissioning and thank them for the confidence they have shown in us. We are proud of our collaboration and of the achievements of our execution team, who safely steered the project through challenges such as the pandemic,” said Dinesh Chadha, Managing Director of Linxon India.

Project Background

Obra-C Badaun Transmission Ltd (OBTL) was incorporated in August 2018 by nodal agency PFC Consulting Ltd. It was awarded to Adani Transmission Ltd, which won the project under the tariff-based competitive bidding mechanism.

OBTL’s objective was to develop intrastate transmission infrastructure to help evacuation of electricity from the state government-owned 2×660-mw Obra-C thermal power plant.

Major elements of the transmission scheme include six EHV overhead transmission lines spanning 624 ckm and a 950MVA, 400/220/132kV GIS substation (and associated bays) at Badaun. (This substation has been discussed in the story.) The project will also include two 132kV bays – one each at the Ujhani and Bilsi substations. Construction work on the project began in May 2019.
