Larsen & Toubro dispatches fourth steam generator to GHAVP, ahead of schedule

The Heavy Engineering arm of Larsen & Toubro, flagged-off the fourth steam generator for the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) in Haryana.

GHAVP is a project by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) involving the use of indigenously-designed pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWR) of 700 MWe rating.

The flag-off ceremony took place at L&T’s state-of-the-art Heavy Engineering Complex located at Hazira near Surat, in the presence of dignitaries from NPCIL and L&T.

The entire order was completed six months ahead of schedule creating a global benchmark in the nuclear manufacturing industry despite the COVID-19 pandemic, a release by L&T said.

 

Steam generators are heat exchangers which convert water into steam using the heat produced in a nuclear reactor core. It acts as a boundary between radiated and outside environment in a PHWR.

 

Proud to deliver

Expressing his view on the achievement, Anil V. Parab, Member- L&T Executive Committee, Senior Vice President and Head, L&T Heavy Engineering, said “We thank NPCIL for having entrusted L&T with the opportunity to be part of India’s nuclear power program since its inception. We are proud to deliver this critical equipment six months ahead of contractual delivery by overcoming the pandemic challenges. L&T is fully committed to Honorable Prime Minister’s vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” and fast track the Indian Nuclear program, to contribute to India’s commitments in COP26 to achieve net-zero carbon emissions.”
