SJVN awards mega EPC contract to Tata Power Solar

SJVN has issued the letter of award for a major EPC contract in Rajasthan to Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd.

In a release, SJVN said that it has issued the LoA for its 1,000-mw solar power project at Bikaner in Rajasthan. The composite cost for the construction and development of this project is Rs.5491.89 crore, SJVN said, adding that the project is scheduled to commission by May 2024.

 

According to Nand Lal Sharma, CMD, SJVN, quoted in the release, this is India’s biggest solar EPC contract awarded till date.

 

The scope of this EPC contract covers end-to-end delivery of the commissioned solar plant to SJVN, including arrangement of land on outright purchase basis, power evacuation system up to the ISTS substation. The contract also includes Operation & Maintenance (O&M) of the Solar PV plant for three years, post commissioning.

The 1,000-mw solar power project was secured by SJVN through competitive Bidding Process under CPSE Scheme of GoI.

The project will generate 2454.55 million kwh of electricity in the first year and approximately 56,838.32 MU over a period of 25 years. The commissioning of this project is expected to forestall approximately 27,85,077 tonnes of carbon dioxide in 25 years.

 

Supporting “Make in India”

In an independent announcement, Tata Power Solar, said that 1,000-mw EPC order from SJVNL, valued at around Rs.5,500 crore, would be completed within 24 months. More significantly, the EPC contract will involve the use of domestically made solar cells and modules.

Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, said “We are proud to have won this mega solar project from SJVN. Implementation of such large project reflects our commitment to the promotion of clean and green energy in the country and strengthens our position as the leading solar EPC player.”

Following this order, the order booking of Tata Power Solar has crossed Rs.12,000 crore covering a portfolio of more than 9.3 GW worth of utility-scale renewable energy projects.

 

Towards the 500-GW target

Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman, SJVN, observed, “This project further consolidates our commitment towards achieving Government of India’s target of 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity and reduction of total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030.  The recent securing of new solar projects is also paving the way for achieving SJVN’s Shared Vision of 5,000 mw by 2023; 25,000 mw by 2030 and 50,000 mw by 2040.”

Currently, SJVN has a portfolio of around 31,000 mw, covering projects across all stages of implementation. Besides generating power through hydropower, thermal, wind and solar, SJVN has also diversified & ventured into power transmission and power trading.
