EESL signs MoU with GGGI to promote sustainable economic growth

Energy Efficiency Services Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) with a primary objective to support and promote strong, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth in member countries.

The MoU is aimed at facilitating collaboration between EESL and GGGI on activities that will accelerate the promotion and adoption of NDC (National Determined Contributions) goals of India, which include reduction of carbon intensity, cleaner economic development, increasing share of non-fossil fuel energy, among others.

 

Extensive cooperation

Under this partnership, both the organisations will cooperate on technical advisory and support in energy efficiency, clean energy and resource efficiency. This would include activities like Demand Side Management (DSM), Demand Response (DR), Industrial Energy Efficiency, Building Energy Efficiency, clean cooking, sustainable cooling, electric transition and other programmes.

Joint projects

EESL and GGGI will also develop joint projects and programmes that will be aimed at demonstrating policies, technologies and business models that are scalable and can be localized related to energy access, renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change.

 

Achieving India’s NDC goals

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Frank Rijsberman, Director General, GGGI, said, “We welcome the collaboration with EESL, and believe that, together, we can help in accelerating the achievement of India’s NDC goals. Through our joint endeavours, we aim to augment the nation’s sustainability efforts, across the levers of energy access, renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change.”

 

Synergy

Speaking on the occasion, Arun Kumar Mishra, CEO, EESL said, “EESL’s expertise in handling the world’s largest energy efficiency portfolio, and GGGI’s extensive experience in fostering strong, inclusive, and sustainable development in its member’s countries will synergise perfectly to create a lasting ecological impact.”

 

Engaging stakeholders

As part of this partnership, EESL and GGGI will explore synergies with State Governments and other relevant stakeholders to promote clean energy and energy efficiency best practices through innovation, implementation and financing mechanisms. They will also jointly explore synergies to submit proposals of mutual interest to seek funding from donor agencies. GGGI will also support EESL in internal capacity building through trainings and development of decision-making tools and techniques, along with the creation of a knowledge exchange platform.
