Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has won a major EPC order from NTPC relating to the Talcher supercritical power generation plant in Odisha.

In a regulatory filing, BHEL said that NTPC has placed the EPC order, or unspecified value, for constructing the 2×660-mw Talcher supercritical power plant (Stage III), on EPC basis.

BHEL won the order for building this power plant in Angul district of Odisha, amidst international competitive bidding.

BHEL’s scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning for two sets of supercritical boilers, turbines along with its auxiliaries, electrical, controls and instrumentation, balance of plant packages, etc.

Though the order valued has not been specified, NTPC at its board meeting in August this year, had accorded investment approval of Rs.11,843.75 crore for the Talcher (Stage III) project.

The order is scheduled to commission within 54 months.
