State utility Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL or MPTransco) has crossed a significant milestone by installing the 1000th transformer in the state’s transmission network.

In an official release, MPPTCL said that this 63 MVA transformer, with a capital outlay of around Rs.7.50 crore, has been installed at the 132kV Harda substation.

According to Sunil Tiwari, Managing Director, MPPTCL, the transformation capacity of the 132kV Harda substation has now increased to 189 MVA while that of the entire Harda district now stands enhanced to 839 MVA. MPPTCL’s power transmission infrastructure in Harda district comprises one 220kV substation at Handia and three 132kV substations spread over Harda, Khirkiya, and Sultanpur.

Best Utility

The release also noted that transmission losses in Madhya Pradesh’s network, at 2.63 percent, were the lowest in the country. Besides, the system availability of MPPTCL was also the best in the country – standing at 99.45 percent as against the prescribed 98.50 percent.

MP’s transmission infrastructure

According to Pradyuman Singh Tomar, Energy Minister, Madhya Pradesh, the 1000th transformer has taken the state’s transformation capacity to 77,109 MVA that includes 11,200 MVA in 400kV, another 31,875 in 220kV and the remaining 34,034 in the 132kV class.

Currently, there are 414 EHV substations in MPTransco’s network that include 14 substations at the 400kV level, 88 substations of the 220kV type, and 312 substations of the 132kV voltage class.

Speaking of power transformers, MPTransco currently has 36 such at 400kV voltage, 208 of 220kV and 756 power transformers in the 132kV voltage class.

The power transmission network of MPPTCL spans around 41,528 ckm, supported by 87,258 transmission towers.

FY23: A record year

In 2022-23, MPPTCL supplied 88,850 million kWh of electricity through its network; this is the best annual achievement to date, the release said, adding that despite an 8 percent year-on-year increase in power supply during FY23, transmission losses did not go up. In FY23, MPPTCL maintained its transmission losses at 2.63 percent – the same as that in FY22.
