MPPTCL recognizes employees for valiant effort in restoring power supply

Madhya Pradesh energy minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar and Sunil Tiwari, MD, Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) have congratulated outsourced technical personnel – Galia Hatila and Akash Pawar – for their valiant efforts in helping restore power supply to rain-affected Indore city.

In a release, MPPTCL said that its outsourced employee Galia Hatila waded through waist-deep water to operate the isolator of MPPTCL’s 220kV Indore North Zone substation that helped restoring power supply to Indore city.

Over the past few days, Indore was inundated with heavy rains, causing power disruption in many areas. Much of this disruption was the result of tree branches falling on overhead power lines.

Due to excessive rainfall in Indore area, consumers in the densely populated areas receiving power supply from MPPTCL’s 220kV Indore North Zone substation were badly affected. The substation yard was filled with waist-deep water.  Meanwhile, there was electrical disruption in some 33kV lines coming out of this substation.

While repair work of these lines was already done by the power discom, despite the rains, power supply to consumers could be restored only when 33kV  isolator of these lines could be operated and firmly closed  from the 220kV Indore North Zone substation.

Operating of isolators in waist-deep water in the substation yard could have been a very risky task. However, Galia Hatila, the outsourced operator working on duty in the substation, performed this work with great excellence by showing courage and smartness. In this work, outsourced security guard Akash Pawar also supported Galia Hatila with full courage and confidence.

What is an isolator?

An isolator is a manually-operated mechanical switch that isolates the faulty section of substation from live section. It is used to separate faulty section for repair from a healthy section in order to avoid the occurrence of severe faults. An isolator is also referred to as “disconnector” or “disconnecting switch.”
