Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has announced the formal acquisition of a project special purpose vehicle “Beawar Dausa Transmission Ltd” from bid process coordinator PFC Consulting Ltd.

Beawar Dausa Transmission Ltd was incorporated in May 2022 by PFC Consulting Ltd, as its wholly-owned subsidiary, to act as a project SPV for an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme termed as “Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase-III Part H.”

PGCIL acquired Beawar Dausa Transmission Ltd (BDTL) on October 30, 2023 and it therefore ceases to be a subsidiary of PFC Consulting Ltd effective given date.

In the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) procedure carried out by PFCCL, PGCIL emerged as the successful bidder.

PGCIL will develop the said project on build, own, operate & transfer (BOOT) basis with an estimated completion period of 18 months from the SPV acquisition date.

The major elements to be developed by Beawar Dausa Transmission Ltd include:

  1. A 2×1,500 MVA 765/400kV substation at Dausa
  2. LILO of both circuits of the existing 765kV double-circuit Jaipur (Phagi) – Gwalior line, at Dausa [40 km]
  3. LILO of both circuits of the existing 400kV double-circuit Agra– Jaipur (South) line, at Dausa [30 km]PFCCL
  4. A new 765kV double-circuit line from Beawar to Dausa [240 km]
  5. Two 765kV line bays at Beawar for the 765kV double-circuit Beawar-Dausa line

BDTL is amongst the several schemes envisaged for evacuation of 20 GW of renewable energy from upcoming renewable energy zones (REZ) in Rajasthan. This scheme, in particular, will help evacuation of renewable energy getting pooled at the Fatehgarh-3 and Fatehgarh-4 pooling stations.

The transmission scheme is expected to cost around Rs.1,910 crore, as estimated by National Committee on Transmission (NCT)

Four bidders

Apart from PGCIL, three other bidders – Tata Power, Sterlite Power and India Grid Trust (IndiGrid) – were in the fray when PGCIL clinched Beawar Dausa Transmission Ltd, under the TBCB modality.

Spate of wins

This is the second formal acquisition of an ISTS scheme for PGCIL in October 2023. On October 16, 2023, PGCIL formally acquired “Ramgarh II Transmission Ltd”. In September 2023, PGCIL had completed the acquisition of “Ananthpuram Kurnool Transmission Ltd” and “Bhadla III Transmission Ltd” – both on September 27, 2023.
