Hitachi Energy introduces “Grid-enSure” for grid stability and resilience

Hitachi Energy in India introduces Grid-enSureTM, a fully integrated portfolio that enhances grid flexibility, resilience, and stability to accelerate the sustainable energy transition.

Grid-enSure brings a new holistic approach to designing, planning, and operating present and future power systems. The portfolio is based on Hitachi Energy’s extensive advisory and consulting services for grid development and modernization, an in-house verticalized value chain for power electronics and advanced control systems, and strong power system domain and control engineering expertise.

By introducing Grid-enSure in India, the company aim to address the challenges in integrating renewables into power systems. This innovative solution portfolio will play a pivotal role in strengthening the grid ecosystem in the country.

Furthermore, the increasing penetration of renewables, growing decentralization of power generation, and gradual electrification and decarbonization of traditional fossil-based industries are creating challenging operating environments for India’s power systems. Due to more variable power flows, lower inertia, and predictability, the need for increasingly controlled interconnection capacity, green energy corridors, and directly feeding cities is required to support remote sustainable generation. Inertia is crucial to ensure overall grid stability.

Grid-enSure’s power electronics solutions include advanced semiconductor technology—entirely manufactured in-house—that allows the fast and secure conversion and control of energy flows, thanks to higher power density and optimal switching frequency.

Hitachi Energy’s consulting services also help customers understand future challenges and the relevant Grid-enSure solutions to address them. The solutions combine Hitachi Energy’s existing and future power electronic solutions such as high-voltage direct current (HVDC), static compensators (STATCOM and Enhanced STATCOM), static frequency converters (SFC), medium-voltage direct current (MVDC), energy storage solutions and semiconductor technologies.

Relion REF650

In a related development, Hitachi Energy also introduced its latest innovation, the Relion REF650, a versatile protection and control relay designed for multi-application use, to the Indian market. Tailored specifically for the medium-voltage power distribution grid, the Relion REF650 stands out for its enhanced flexibility, modularity, and robust security features. Its intuitive user interface further elevates its functionality, making it exceptionally well-suited to meet the evolving power quality demands of utility and industrial operations nationwide.

The release of this product in India from Hitachi Energy comes at a crucial juncture, aligning seamlessly with the Government of India’s strategic focus on enhancing and modernizing the nation’s power distribution infrastructure.

The Relion REF650, with its cutting-edge protection and control capabilities for power distribution applications, is ideally suited to meet India’s expanding electricity demands. It ensures a sustainable, flexible, and secure power distribution system, a release by Hitachi Energy India said.
