Voltamp places long-lead orders for new transformer plant

Voltamp Transformers Ltd has placed long-lead orders for plant and machinery for its upcoming transformer manufacturing unit in Gujarat.

In a release Voltamp said that construction work was progressing as planned. According to information previously released by the company, the new power transformer manufacturing plant, coming up at Jarod in Vadodara district, will have annual capacity of around 6,000 MVA, in the first phase.

The plant will roll out transformer of up to 250 MVA capacity, in the 220kV class. Capacity expansion will be undertaken in future, governed by market conditions, the company said. The capital outlay for the new unit is around Rs.200 crore that will be financed through internal accruals.

Voltamp currently has two manufacturing units — located at Makarpura and Vadadla – both in Gujarat.

Meanwhile, the company said that it was planning full capacity utilization during ongoing fiscal year, FY26. Orders required to ensure 100 per cent capacity utilization are present in the market, the company noted.

Voltamp also said that it would not be booking orders with delivery period more than nine months. Explaining the rationale, the company said that in the present market condition there are supply chain constraints and orders with longer delivery period could potentially result in margin erosion.

The release also noted that as of May 3, 2025, the company’s order book stood at Rs.1,129 crore, or 9,856 MVA in physical terms. According to information independently available, Voltamp opened FY25 with an order book of Rs.840.66 crore (or 7,839 MVA) as of April 1, 2025.
