Bajel Projects Ltd has won an order valued at over Rs.400 crore from a TBCB subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL).

In release, Bajel Projects said that the order was placed by PGCIL on behalf of its TBCB subsidiary “MEL Power Transmission Ltd.”

The comprehensive order from PGCIL encompasses’ critical components for enhancing India’s transmission capabilities, specifically for the transmission line package “TL01”.

The scope of work includes:

  • Construction of a new 400kV D/c Transmission Line stretching approximately 138 km, connecting Mahan (Existing Bus) – Rewa PS (PG) using Quad ACSR/AAAC/AL59 moose equivalent conductors.
  • Extension of 400kV substation bay works at the Rewa (PG) associated with the transmission system for the evacuation of power from Mahan Energen Ltd Generating Station in Madhya Pradesh.

This crucial project is set to be completed within 29 months, further solidifying Bajel Projects’ commitment to timely and efficient execution of vital infrastructure projects, the release said.

Proud moment

Commenting on this achievement, Rajesh Ganesh, MD & CEO of Bajel Projects Ltd, stated, “We are incredibly proud to have secured this ultra-mega order from PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited. This project reflects our robust capabilities in executing large and complex power transmission projects contributing to India’s energy infrastructure growth. This order highlights Bajel Projects Ltd’s continued dedication to supporting the nation’s power sector and its strategic vision for a robust and reliable energy grid.”

Project background

According to information available with T&D India, PGCIL recently won an ISTS scheme housed under “MEL Transmission Ltd” under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework.

The scheme involves providing ISTS connectivity to the existing 1,200-MW Mahan thermal power plant owned by Mahan Energen Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd. The Mahan plant already has ISTS connectivity, but it is on short-term basis under CERC, Connectivity/LTA Regulations, 2009. The project under discussion will provide full-fledged connectivity under CERC, GNA Regulations.

Estimated to cost around Rs.558 crore and with an expected implementation period of 30 months, the scheme involves putting up a 400kV double-circuit line from the existing bus of the Mahan power plant to PGCIL’s existing Rewa pooling station (PS) of PGCIL. Two 400kV line bays will also be constructed at the Rewa PS for termination of the aforementioned line.  (Read T&D India story dated June 6, 2025)
