Prostarm to set up 1.2 GWh BESS manufacturing facility in Haryana

Prostarm Info Systems Ltd has planned to establish its first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility.

To come up in Reliance MET City, Jhajjar, Haryana, this facility with annual manufacturing capacity of 1.2 GWh, marks a key milestone in the company’s commitment of enhancing its manufacturing capabilities in the battery energy storage solutions segment, a release by Prostarm said.

Land acquisition

Prostarm has secured for a 9-year lease (from May 2025 to April 2034) a land parcel, measuring 3,912 sqm, including a covered shed area of 34,000 sqft.

Capex

The total capex planned for the project is Rs.25 crore, which includes setup of advanced plant & machinery, office infrastructure, HVAC systems, power capacity upgrades, anti-static flooring, warehousing and other essential infrastructure to enable high-end assembly and integration.

The BESS unit, catering to both C&I and utility-scale applications, is expected to be commissioned by the end of FY26.

India’s BESS market

The Prostarm release observed that India’s BESS market is projected to expand to 66 GW by 2032 from less than 0.2 GW currently. The widespread adoption of BESS could help avoid over 2,000 million tonnes of CO2 emission and the planned addition of over 44 GW of BESS capacity by 2030 is a critical step towards integrating renewable energy and enhancing grid stability.

Advantages of BESS
  • BESS provides quick backup and hence helps maintain grid stability and restoration in case emergencies
  • C&I segment is gradually shifting to BESS as a good alternate to gensets
  • The decreasing cost of lithium ion batteries is making BESS more affordable

Strategic expansion

Commenting on this development, Ram Agarwal, Whole Time Director & CEO, said, “This strategic expansion marks our entry into the fast-growing BESS segment, which is a natural extension of our core expertise in power electronics. With this facility, the company aims to become one of India’s few OEMs manufacturing BESS solutions, allowing us to directly supply to EPC contractors and developers, thereby opening up significant new revenue opportunities. We believe this strategic expansion positions Prostarm at the forefront of India’s energy transformation. In BESS, the Company already secured 22 MWh order from Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd for design, supply, installation, commissioning and testing having contract value of Rs.52 crore and another LOI from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd for 120 MWh on BOOT model with monthly rental of Rs. 4.44 lakh/MW for period of 12 years.”
