A TBCB subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has been named implementing agency for an ISTS scheme associated with the upcoming Navinal (GIS) substation in Gujarat.

In its latest meeting, National Committee on Transmission (NCT) approved an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme called “Transmission system for providing connectivity to RE applicants at Navinal (Mundra) GIS.” This Gujarat-based scheme has envisaged cost of Rs.105.09 crore and an implementation timeframe of 24 months.

The project, to be implemented by Navinal Transmission Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, aims at creating a 220kV switchyard (on bus section-1) at the upcoming Navinal (Mundra) GIS substation in Gujarat. The scheme also entails installation of 1×500 MVA, 400/220kV interconnecting transformer (ICT) at the GIS substation.

The objective of the scheme, among other things, is to enable injection of power from the 300-MW wind power project of Adani Wind Energy Kutchh Three Ltd, at 220kV level, at the Navinal GIS substation.

Navinal Transmission Ltd (NTL) is building the greenfield 765/400kV, 4×1500 MVA Navinal (Mundra) GIS substation as part of an ISTS-TBCB scheme “Network Expansion Scheme in Navinal (Mundra) area of Gujarat for drawl of power in the area” that NTL was awarded in October 2024. The project, scheduled to commission by July 2026, also involves putting up a LILO of the 765kV double-circuit Bhuj-II – Lakadia line at the Navinal substation.

According to latest information released by CEA, the entire land of around 70 acres required for the Navinal substation has been acquired, and foundation work was completed, as of July 31, 2025. Civil works on the GIS substation were completed to the extent of 30 per cent, as of given date.

The Navinal (GIS) substation will see further augmentation of transformation capacity through an another ISTS-TBCB scheme called “Transmission system for supply of power to Green hydrogen/ammonia manufacturing potential in Mundra area of Gujarat under Phase-I: Part B1 scheme (3 GW at Navinal substation).” This scheme aims to supply up to 3 GW to upcoming green hydrogen/ammonia plants in the Mundra region.

Housed under “Mundra I Transmission Ltd,” this scheme was also awarded to Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, under the TBCB framework, in March 2025. The scheme, apart from augmenting capacity of the Navinal (GIS) substation by 765/400kV, 2×1500 MVA, will also connect the substation to the Bhuj Pooling station through a 765kV double-circuit line running about 140 ckm.

Thus, Adani Energy Solutions Ltd will be closely associated with the Navinal GIS substation, right from its development to capacity augmentation and to creating 220kV voltage level.
