JSW Energy added 443 MW of new power generation capacity in the second quarter (Q2: July to September) of FY26, taking the company’s total installed capacity to 13.2 GW.

The company’s total installed capacity as of September 30, 2025, at 13.2 GW, was 71 per cent higher than the comparable 7.7 GW in 2024.

The 443 MW added in Q2FY26 included 240 MW from the greenfield Kutehr hydropower project in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, 148 MW from wind energy projects and around 56 MW from solar power plants, including 20 MW from a floating solar asset at Vijayanagar in Karnataka.

Renewables (solar, wind and hydropower) accounted for 57 per cent of JSW Energy’s total installed power generation capacity, as of September 30, 2025.

Under construction-portfolio

JSW Energy, as of September 30, 2025, had 12.5 GW of generation projects under construction, all of which were fully tied up under long-term power purchase agreements. Upon completion, the company’s installed capacity will nearly double to around 26 GW.

During Q2FY26, JSW Energy signed new PPAs for 230 MW under SECI FDRE IV, and 100 MW solar with 100 MWh battery energy storage system.

Operational highlights: Q2FY26
  • JSW Energy entered into a scheme of arrangement with GE Power India Ltd to acquire its boiler manufacturing business. This acquisition will enhance JSW Energy’s in-house capabilities with both technology and people, which is very critical for equipment manufacturing and supports our thermal power expansion plan, the company said.
  • JSW Energy successfully completed the acquisition of a majority stake in KSK Water Infrastructure that currently supplies raw water to JSW Energy’s 1,800-MW KSK Mahanadi thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh and is equipped to support an additional 1,800 MW.
  • JSW Energy’s battery assembly plant in Pune, Maharashtra, with rated capacity of 5 GWh per year is expected to be operational in Q3 (October to December) of FY26. This facility, dedicated to supporting Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects will also enable the company to meet domestic content requirements for BESS as and when they are mandated.
  • Trial runs for JSW Energy’s 25-MW, 3,800-tpa green hydrogen project at Vijayanagar in Karnataka are near complete, with commissioning expected soon. It may be mentioned that JSW Energy has put on hold its plans of developing solar equipment manufacturing capacity but will continue its recently-formalized partnership with SANY for manufacturing of wind turbine generators.
