Solarworld Energy Solutions signs BESS purchase agreement in Gujarat

Solarworld Energy Solutions Ltd, on December 8, 2025, signed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA), in Gujarat.

In a stock exchange filing, Solarworld said that the BESPA was signed with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd for the development of a 200 MW/400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Gujarat.

This agreement pertains to “on-demand” usage under the tariff-based competitive bidding (Phase VI) undertaken by GUVNL earlier this year.

Solarworld had received the letter of intent (LoI) for this BESS mandate on May 28, 2025, Solarworld said in a stock exchange filing.

The mandate is valued at Rs.806.40 crore (excluding taxes) over the 12-year concession period.

According to information independently available, GUVNL had floated the BESS tender in January 2025 and in April 2025, awarded 500 MW/1,000 MWh of BESS capacity to two winners – Solarworld Energy Solutions (200 MW/400 MWh) and H.G. Infra Engineering (300 MW/600 MWh).  Solarworld was awarded the project at a tariff of Rs.2.80 lakh per MW per month.

Solarworld is also developing a BESS project of 125 MW/250 MWh for Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd, it is learnt. This project was awarded at a tariff of Rs.2.21 lakh per MW per month, and will have a viability gap funding (VGF) of Rs.27 lakh per MWh. [The GUVNL project discussed in this story will have be eligible for VGF.]

Order book

As of October 31, 2025, Solarworld Energy Solutions Ltd had an order book of Rs.3,223 crore that included eight projects – two BESS (325 MW/650 MWh) and six solar EPC projects (1,254 MWdc).

Production line

It is further learnt that Solarworld is putting up a BESS manufacturing line at Haridwar in Uttarakhand.  This 3.4-GW lithium-ion cell-to-battery pack line, equipped with advanced automation and AI-driven quality control systems, has been fully procured and is scheduled for installation and commissioning by January 2026.

Solarworld would be importing the lithium-ion cells and assemble the same into a battery pack. These packs will be containerized for large BESS projects, such as for the two projects discussed above. Solarworld would also be doing smaller BESS projects for C&I customers where the BESS could act as a replacement for generators.
