Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has fully commissioned the Khavda II-C interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme in Gujarat, through its TBCB subsidiary.

In a stock exchange notification, PGCIL said that its wholly-owned subsidiary “Powergrid Khavda II-C Transmission Ltd” has commissioned an ISTS scheme “Transmission system for evacuation of 4.5 GW RE injection at Khavda PS under Phase-II, Part C”.

The scheme was fully commissioned on January 31, 2026, while the notification for commercial operation (DOCO: date of commercial operations) was received on February 2, 2026, the PGCIL filing said.

According to information available with tndindia.com, the scheme, awarded to PGCIL under the TBCB framework on March 21, 2023, was scheduled to commission in 24 months, which is by March 21, 2025. However, delays in securing forest clearances caused prolongment of the commissioning schedule.

The overall scheme, with an estimated outlay of Rs.2,821 crore, has two components: a 765kV double-circuit line from Ahmedabad substation to New Navsari substation (around 590 ckm) and a greenfield 765/400kV, 3×1500 MVA Ahmedabad substation. While the substation was commissioned in phases between September and November 2025, it was commissioning of the transmission line that resulted in overall project completion.

For PGCIL, this is the eighth ISTS-TBCB scheme to have commissioned during the current year, FY26, so far.

As reported by tndindia.com on January 17, 2026, PGCIL commissioned three ISTS-TBCB schemes in December 2025 alone – a month that was marked by seven ISTS-TBCB projects getting commissioned, including four by private sector developers.

More completions expected

According to estimates made by tndindia.com, PGCIL is likely to commission around five more ISTS-TBCB schemes during February and March 2026. These will together add around 2,840 ckm of transmission lines and 15 GVA of transformation capacity to the interstate grid. These five schemes are housed under the following TBCB subsidiaries of PGCIL: Powergrid Bhadla Sikar Transmission Ltd, Powergrid Bhadla III Transmission Ltd, Powergrid Ramgarh II Transmission Ltd, Powergrid Beawar Dausa Transmission Ltd and Powergrid Ananthpuram Kurnool Transmission Ltd.

Some of these five projects could spill over into Q1FY27 but as of December 31, 2025, all these schemes were under advanced stage of completion.
