IWTMA calls for deeper global collaboration as ASEAN emerges as a key wind energy market

The Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) highlighted ASEAN’s emergence as a key wind energy market at the “AWE-ASEAN Wind Energy Expo 2026”, with its CEO, Aditya Pyasi, convening a panel discussion on “Offshore & Onshore Wind Capacity Addition in ASEAN” at the IMPACT Exhibition Centre, Bangkok, Thailand.

In a release, IWTMA said that ASEAN is at a critical juncture in its energy transition, with electricity demand growing at 3–4 per cent annually and increasing pressure to reduce fossil fuel dependence. Wind energy is turning up as a key lever in this shift, with onshore capacity expected to scale from 6.5 GW in 2024 to 26 GW by 2030, alongside a growing pipeline of offshore projects.

However, unlocking this opportunity at scale will require coordinated action across manufacturing, technology, and policy frameworks. In this context, stronger collaboration between India, Germany, and ASEAN can play a pivotal role in bridging capability gaps, enabling efficient project execution, and building resilient supply chains.

Emphasis on both onshore and offshore

Dr. P.K. Dash, Scientist E, MNRE, “India views wind energy both onshore and offshore as a cornerstone of the global clean energy transition. As one of the world’s leading wind power markets, India has developed strong policy frameworks, manufacturing capabilities, and grid integration experience that can contribute meaningfully to regional collaboration. Platforms such as the ASEAN Wind Energy Expo provide an important opportunity for knowledge exchange between India and ASEAN countries as we collectively scale up renewable energy deployment. Strengthening partnerships in technology, supply chains, and capacity building will be critical to accelerating wind capacity addition across the region and advancing our shared climate and energy security goals”

Full value chain

Aditya Pyasi, CEO, IWTMA, “ASEAN stands at the cusp of a decisive decade for wind and storage. As India’s official wind manufacturing gateway to ASEAN, IWTMA members bring proven scale, competitive costs and a full value chain from blades to digital O&M. Our message in AWEE is simple: let us co-create an Asian supply chain that accelerates your onshore, offshore and hybrid projects, while de risking dependence on any single country or technology. Together, India and ASEAN can build a resilient green corridor—where turbines, talent and technology move seamlessly across borders to deliver reliable, affordable, clean power for our 2 billion-plus people.

ASEAN

Established in August 1967, Associated of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established by five founding member nations — Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Subsequently, six nations – Brunei (1984), Viet Nam (1995), Lao PDR and Myanmar (both 1997), Cambodia (1999) and Timor-Leste (2025) – joined ASEAN, taking its total current membership to 11 nations.
