MPPTCL’s transformation capacity crosses 85 GVA mark

The total transformation capacity of state transco Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd (MPPTCL) has crossed the 85-GVA mark.

In a release, MPPTCL said that the milestone was crossed with the commissioned of an additional 315-MVA power transformer at the 400kV Bina substation taking the substation’s total capacity to 1,260 MVA.

The total transformation capacity of MPPTCL now stands at 85,284 MVA spread over 417 substations equipped with 1052 power transformers. In the 400kV voltage class, MPPTCL has 14 substations with total transformation capacity of 13,195 MVA. (See table).

 

 

According to Madhya Pradesh Energy Minister, Pradyumn Singh Tomar, in view of the rapidly growing industrial development and increasing power demand in the state.

Tomar added that surpassing the 85,000 MVA transformation capacity milestone is a significant achievement for the state’s power sector. He congratulated all power sector employees and officers across the state, noting that this success reflects their dedication, technical expertise, and committed work culture, the MPPTCL release observed.

This achievement further strengthens Madhya Pradesh’s power transmission infrastructure and enhances its capability to meet the growing electricity demand driven by industrial and economic development.

MPPTCL’s power transformation capacity of 85,284 MVA is complemented by 43,079 ckm of EHV transmission lines, the release added.

 

New transformers in FY27

During the current fiscal year FY27 so far, MPPTCL commissioned a number of transformers at various substations. In April 2026, the state transco commissioned a new 200-MVA power transformer at the 220kV Manglia substation in Indore. This was followed by energizing a 50-MVA transformer at the 132kV GIS substation at E-8, Arera Colony in Bhopal. At the 220kV Chhatapur substation a new 200-MVA transformer was also commissioned, taking the substation’s capacity to 643 MVA.
