Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has received the letter of intent for developing an interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme involving supply of RE power to upcoming green hydrogen projects in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.

In a brief stock exchange communication, PGCIL said that it has declared as successful bidder under TBCB to establish an ISTS interstate transmission system for the project namely “Transmission system for proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia projects in Kakinada area (Phase-I)” on BOOT basis. The LoI has been received by PGCIL on June 12, 2026, the filing said. The project comprises establishment of a new 765/400kV GIS substation along with STATCOM and 765kV transmission line works in Andhra Pradesh.

As exclusively reported by tndindia.com on June 10, 2026, PGCIL had emerged L1 bidder for this project under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework, getting the better of eight other contenders.

Bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL), in due course, will formally transfer the project SPV “Kakinada I Power Transmission Ltd” to PGCIL. The project SPV is currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of RECPDCL, and was incorporated on February 20, 2025.

Formally termed as “Transmission system for proposed green hydrogen/green ammonia projects in Kakinada area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I),” the project has an estimated outlay of Rs.1618.50 crore and a completion period of 24 months.

One more LoI to PGCIL

PGCIL, as reliably learnt by tndindia.com will soon receive the letter of intent (LoI) for another ISTS-TBCB scheme housed under “WR ER Part A Power Transmission Ltd.” As exclusively reported by tndindia.com on June 11, 2026, PGCIL has been named L1 bidder for this project. PGCIL’s tariff bid for this project is understood to be in the range of Rs.750 crore and Rs.800 crore per year, making it among PGCIL’s highest-tariff ISTS-TBCB projects, currently under construction.

PGCIL’s FY27 scorecard

During the current fiscal year so far (April 1, 2026 to June 12, 2026) PGCIL has formally acquired one ISTS-TBCB scheme and is close to doing so with respect to two others. Here is a summary:
