Tata Power has received the formal letter of intent for developing the Ryapte intrastate scheme in Karnataka, for which the Tata Group entity had emerged as winning developer under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism.
With this, Tata Power has expanded its geographical footprint, with respect to power transmission activities, to Karnataka, a senior Tata Power official told tndindia.com
In a regulatory disclosure, Tata Power said that the letter of intent was received from the bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) on June 18, 2026, and is for developing the Ryapte intrastate scheme under the BOOT model, and to provide transmission services for a period of 35 years.
Tata Power won the project under the TBCB framework quoting annual transmission charges of Rs.521.07 crore, Tata Power said in the regulatory filing.
The project is scheduled for completion in 30 months from the date of transfer of project SPV “Ryapte Power Transmission Ltd,” which is currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of RECPDCL.
Background
As exclusively reported by tndindia.com on May 13, 2026, Tata Power had emerged winning developer for the Ryapte scheme. The project underwent rebidding after the first round was cancelled, following discovery of high price bids. In the second round of bidding, Tata Power was in the fray alongside Resonia Ltd and Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, as reported by tndindia.com on April 17, 2026.

The project involves 4,000 MVA of transformation capacity and a network of 250 km (not ckm) of transmission lines. The “existing” substations mentioned above are under the ownership of state transco Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL).
