Sterlumiq, a joint venture between Sterlite Electric and RDT Lumiker, and AP Sensing, a global leader in distributed fiber-optic sensing (DFOS) solutions, have announced a strategic commercial and technology partnership to jointly develop and sell advanced integrated monitoring solutions for the power cable and overhead line (OHL) industries globally.

The partnership brings together AP Sensing’s expertise in AP Sensing’s expertise in Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) and Distributed Temperature and Strain Sensing (DTSS) with Sterlumiq’s Cable Advanced Monitoring Optical System (CAMOS), and electrical current sensing capabilities. Together, the companies will provide utilities, transmission system operators (TSOs), renewable energy developers and other network owners with an enhanced visibility into cable condition, performance and emerging risks through a unified monitoring environment.

The partnership will initially focus on regional cross-selling of the solutions and integrating the companies’ respective technologies and analytics capabilities into scalable solutions for high- and medium-voltage cable networks. The companies will also collaborate on product development, technical validation, commercial deployment and customer support across international markets.

Deeper understanding of asset condition

Commenting on the partnership, Manuel Munoz Luengo, CEO of Sterlumiq, said, “Both DFOS and CAMOS provide different but highly complementary perspectives on cable behaviour. Distributed sensing allows us to observe temperature, acoustic activity and strain across the cable route, while CAMOS adds direct intelligence from phase and screen-current measurements. Correlating these signals can provide a much deeper understanding of asset condition, fault behaviour and available capacity, enabling utilities to shift from isolated alarms and reactive interventions towards predictive, condition-based network management.”

Resilient transmission networks

According to Dr. Henrik Hoff, Business Director, AP Sensing, “The global energy market is going through an incredibly exciting and dynamic phase. Working with Sterlumiq helps us to develop innovative solutions that make transmission networks safer, more powerful, and more resilient. We have many ideas that we can now implement with our partner for the benefit of our customers. With fiber-optic sensors for thermal, acoustic, and now also electrical conditions, we provide a comprehensive solution package that addresses the main challenges in energy transmission.”
