Tata Power acquires project SPV for Ryapte intrastate-TBCB scheme in Karnataka

Tata Power formally acquired “Ryapte Power Transmission Ltd” from bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) on July 30, 2026.
Tata Power had emerged as the winning bidder for the intrastate transmission system (InSTS) scheme termed as “Evacuation scheme for 2,000 MW solar park at Ryapte village, Tumkur district,” under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism.
The said project SPV was incorporated on May 21, 2025 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of RECPDCL.
Tata Power had received the letter of intent for the Ryapte scheme on June 18, 2026, after it emerged as the successful developer getting the better of two other bidders – Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) and Resonia Ltd.
It is learnt that Tata Power’s final winning tariff was Rs.5210.71 million per year, earning it the L1 position, at the end of the e-reverse auction (e-RA) procedure.
It may also be mentioned that the Ryapte scheme was a case of re-bidding. The initial round that saw five bidders in the fray was rescinded following discovery of high tariffs. These five included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) and KCC Buildcon Pvt Ltd, in addition to the three shortlisted in the second bidding round. The Ryapte project is scheduled to commission in 30 months from the SPV transfer date, which works out to around January 30, 2029.
Project elements
The overall Ryapte project, estimated to cost around Rs.3,200 crore involves the following elements:
- 400/220kV, 5×500 MVA Ryapte AIS substation in Tumkur district
- 400/220kV, 3×500 MVA Doddathaggalli GIS substation near Hoskote, Bengaluru (Rural) district
- 400kV double-circuit line from Ryapte AIS substation to Doddathaggalli GIS substation
- 400kV double-circuit line from Kolar substation (existing) to Doddathaggalli GIS substation
- 220kV double-circuit line connecting Doddathaggalli GIS substation to existing substations at Ekarajapura, Hosakote and Sarjapura
- 220kV underground cable from Doddathaggalli GIS substation to existing substations at Ekarajapura, Hosakote and Sarjapura
The project entails 4,000 MVA of transformation capacity and a network of 250 km (not ckm) of transmission lines. The “existing” substations mentioned above are under the ownership of state transco Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL). In terms of circuit length, the transmission network to be built under the Ryapte scheme is around 491 ckm.
Impact on Tata Power portfolio
For Tata Power, this would be the third greenfield InSTS-TBCB scheme after “TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Ltd” in Uttar Pradesh and “TP Jejuri Hinjewadi Power Transmission Ltd” in Maharashtra. InSTS-TBCB in Karnataka
According to studies by tndindia.com, Ryapte becomes the third InSTS-TBCB scheme in Karnataka to be formally awarded to its winning developer, after Dilip Buildcon acquired Mekhali Power Transmission Ltd and Resonia’s acquisition of Hampapura Power Transmission Ltd. Both the transfers took place on May 30, 2026.
With respect to two other schemes – Hebbani and Humnabad – bidders have been shortlisted but no information on issuance of letters of intent is yet available.
Bidder selection for one scheme – Sharavathi – is currently under progress, while four schemes, including Kempegowda and Benchigere, are expected to come up for bidding soon.
