ANDRITZ has announced significant physical progress on the Pinnapuram pumped storage plant (PSP) in Andhra Pradesh that it is building for Greenko Group.

In a release, ANDRITZ said that in March and April 2023, ANDRITZ successfully completed the factory acceptance of the Guide Apparatus (GA) and Main Inlet Valve (MIV) of Unit 1, at its plant in Prithla, Haryana. The factory acceptance was conducted in the presence of representatives of Greenko, the project promoter.

The GA assembly, with a total weight of 225 tonnes, a diameter of 8.5m and a height of 5.2m, is one of the largest and heaviest guide apparatuses manufactured in ANDRITZ’s Indian plant.

The guide apparatus (GA) will handle a discharge volume of 224 cumecs (cubic meter per second) of water.

The MIV, with a design pressure of 23.3 bar, was successfully tested to a test pressure of 34.4 bar during functional testing. The total weight of the MIV assembly is 260 tonnes with a disc size of 5.3m. The complete valve is also one of the largest and heaviest manufactured in the company’s Indian facility to date.

“This amazing feat was accomplished by our team of designers and engineers and is a proud moment for ANDRITZ, demonstrating our penchant for complex engineering solutions while meeting the requirements of our customers. We are proud to be part of ‘Make in India,’” a statement by ANDRITZ said.
