“The rooftop solar sector has suffered the most significant CY 2021 due to the proposal to limit net metering.

The so-called “right of consumers acts 2021” has worked against consumers by reducing the earlier cap of 1 MW to 500 KW for net-metering in states that already had a net-metering policy. Moreover, states without a net-metering policy have opted for a net-feed-in mechanism instead of a net-metering policy that does not have the same commercial strength.

On the other hand, the proposed lowering of green energy access restrictions from 1 MW to 100 KW can benefit many Indian consumers. In our fight against climate change, the policy, if implemented correctly, can generate increased awareness and focus on renewable energy, waste-to-energy, and green hydrogen.

All-in-all, it has been a topsy-turvy year for the Indian renewable energy segment, but one cannot discount the immense progress that the nation has had.”

Animesh Damani was expressing his views on key developments in the Indian renewable energy sector during 2021, in a statement.
