Apraava Energy is on course to soon complete its interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme housed under “Fatehgarh IV Transmission Ltd.”
According to latest information available from Central Electricity Authority (CEA), the Fatehgarh IV Transmission project is expected to fully commission by end-August 2025, albeit missing its original deadline of February 2025.
The major element of this scheme is the new 400/220kV, 5×500 MVA Fatehgarh-IV Pooling station in Rajasthan, which is now racing to completion. As of end-June 2025, the required land of around 134 acres was acquired and the entire equipment had arrived on site. While substation equipment erection was completed to the extent of 73 per cent, the civil works completion ratio was around 82 per cent.
The project also involves a 400kV double-circuit line from Fatehgarh-IV PS to Fatehgarh-III PS, running about 42 ckm. This line is facing right-of-way (RoW) issues at about 13 locations in Barmer district, it is learnt. A small portion of this line (around 0.7 ckm) passes through forest area, and boding well for the project, in-principle clearance was granted on June 20, 2025.
The overall project costing around Rs.358 crore is officially termed as “Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase III, Part A1.” It was awarded to Apraava Energy in August 2023, under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism.
The Fatehgarh IV project is part of an overarching scheme enabling evacuation of 20 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan.
Apraava Energy, in August 2023 itself, was awarded a related project housed under “Fatehgarh III Transmission Ltd.” This project refers to “Part A3” of the aforementioned “Rajasthan (20 GW), Phase III” transmission system.
This project, with an estimated cost of Rs.1,118 crore, entails putting up a 400kV double-circuit line of 446 ckm, connecting the Fatehgarh-III and Bhadla-III pooling stations in Rajasthan. According to CEA reports, construction work was hampered by RoW-related challenges in around 80 locations, mainly at Jaisalmer and Phalodi. Besides, clearance is also awaited with respect to a 9-ckm segment passing through forest area.
As of June 30, 2025, a total of 409 tower foundations were constructed out of a total of 584. Towers were erected at 226 locations and overall stringing was completed to the extent of about 52 per cent.
According to information available with T&D India, Apraava Energy currently has a portfolio of four greenfield ISTS-TBCB projects, all of which are under construction. Apart from the two discussed above, Apraava Energy is also developing “Karera Power Transmission Ltd” in Madhya Pradesh and “Rajasthan IV 4A Power Transmission Ltd.” These two projects are currently under construction with completion expected in February 2026 and August 2026, respectively.
By current thinking “Fatehgarh IV Transmission Ltd” will be Apraava Energy’s first greenfield ISTS-TBCB project to start commercial operations. Apraava Energy has one interstate scheme housed under “Kohima Mariani Transmission Ltd” (KMTL) that was acquired from the original developer – a consortium of Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd (now known as Kalpataru Projects International Ltd) and Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd. Apraava currently has 74 per cent stake in KMTL and is expected to acquire the remaining 26 per cent by end of 2025.
Apraava Energy began acquiring stake in KMTL in December 2021 after the project was fully commissioned in around October 2020.
