Bajel Projects Ltd has announced the successful charging and commissioning of the 400kV Ananthpuram-Kurnool line in Andhra Pradesh.

In a release, Bajel Projects said that the “TL01 – Ananthpuram–Kurnool 400 kV D/C Line”, officially charged on December 26, 2025, marks a significant milestone in regional grid strengthening.

The completion of this project is a critical addition to the regional power corridor, designed to enhance grid stability and meet the rapidly escalating energy demands of the Ananthpuram and Kurnool districts, the release noted.

According to information available with tndndia.com, this line is a component of an ISTS-TBCB project of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), housed under its wholly-owned subsidiary “Powergrid Ananthpuram Kurnool Transmission Ltd.”

This newly-commissioned double-circuit line, running from Ananthpuram Pooling Station (PS) to Kurnool-III PS, is entirely located in Andhra Pradesh.

Engineering excellence at scale

Executing a project of this magnitude required world-class engineering precision and logistical coordination, the Bajel Projects release observed. “By delivering this line, Bajel Projects continues to reinforce its position as a key driver of India’s mission to modernize its national power grid,” the release said.

The TL01 project’s technical highlights include:

  • Erection of 222 high-tension transmission towers
  • Stringing of 171 circuit kilometers (ckm) of conductor
  • Successful management and execution of 15 major overhead (OH) crossings, completed under rigorous safety protocols and seamless inter-departmental coordination

Landmark achievement

Commenting on the milestone, Rajesh Ganesh, MD & CEO, Bajel Projects Limited, said, “The successful commissioning of the Ananthpuram–Kurnool 400kV D/C Line is a landmark achievement for Bajel Projects. Navigating 171 circuit kilometers and 15 complex overhead crossings requires not just technical expertise but also reflects our commitment to safety and precision. Executing 15 major crossings while maintaining strict safety standards is a significant feat of engineering. This line will play a vital role in ensuring uninterrupted power flow and supporting industrial and residential growth in the corridor. This project is a vital link in our mission to enhance grid reliability and power the region’s economic growth. I am incredibly proud of our site engineers and project teams who demonstrated exceptional coordination to bring this high-capacity corridor to life on schedule.”

Collaborative Success

Bajel Projects extends its deepest gratitude to the dedicated project management teams, site engineers, and strategic partners. Their tireless efforts and adherence to excellence made this “charged” success possible despite the geographical and technical challenges encountered during the construction phase.

Two more project components

According to information available with tndindia.com, the overall project has two more components that are being executed by other contractors.

One of them is a 400kV double-circuit line from Ananthpuram PS to Cuddapah of about 371 ckm. As of November 30, 2025, about 470 foundations were erected out of a total of 490, and tower erection was completed on 423. Stringing was completed to the extent of 40 per cent.

The second is the greenfield 400/220kV, 7×500 MVA Ananthpuram PS. This substation is currently in an advanced stage with respect to civil works and receipt of equipment, according to information available with tndindia.com.

Both the unfinished components are scheduled to commission by March 2026, rendering full completion of the overall project that is officially termed as “Transmission system for solar energy zone in Ananthpuram (2500 MW) and Kurnool (1000 MW), Andhra Pradesh.” The original commissioning deadline of September 2025 was missed due to right-of-way (RoW)-related concerns, it is learnt.

PGCIL won this scheme under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework, acquiring the project SPV, then known as “Ananthpuram Kurnool Transmission Ltd,” on September 27, 2023.
