Bajel Projects Ltd has been an awarded an EPC order, valued at over Rs.700 crore, making it the company’s single-largest order in the power transmission vertical.
In a release, Bajel Projects said that the order was placed by state transco Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (MSETCL), and entails the following works:
According to information independently available, the Saswad substation will be connected to existing MSETCL substations like 400kV Lokinand-I (AIS), 220kV Theur (AIS) and 220kV Nanded City (AIS). It will also be connected to the under-construction 765kV Pune-III (GIS) substation that is come up through an ISTS-TBCB scheme being implemented by “Pune III Transmission Ltd,” a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd.
The LILO, which is part of the project, refers to that of both circuits of the existing 220kV double-circuit line connecting the 400kV Jejuri and the 220kV Phursungi substations.
Discussing the significance of the project, the Bajel Projects release observed that the Saswad substation, strategically located in Pune district, will serve as a critical node in Maharashtra’s high-voltage transmission network, significantly enhancing power evacuation capacity for the rapidly industrialising Pune region and strengthening grid reliability across the state. The substation has also been designed with future expansion provisions, reflecting a forward-looking approach to Maharashtra’s long-term power demand growth.
Commenting on the win, Rajesh Ganesh, Managing Director & CEO, Bajel Projects Ltd, said, “securing this Rs.700 crore+ ultra-mega order from MSETCL is a milestone for Bajel Projects and a strong validation of our EPC capabilities in the high-voltage substation segment. A 400/220kV substation of this scale in the Pune district is critical infrastructure that will strengthen Maharashtra’s transmission network and support the region’s growing industrial and urban power demand. This order reinforces our RAASTA 2030 strategy of expanding into high-value, high-complexity projects and deepens our partnership with one of India’s most important state transmission utilities. Our team is fully committed to delivering this project with the highest standards of quality and safety.”
According to information available with tndindia.com but not contained in the Bajel Projects’ release, the Saswad project represents MSETCL’s entry in the power transmission development space, under the TBCB route.
MSETCL acquired the project SPV “Saswad Power Transmission Ltd,” on February 26, 2026, after emerging winner under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework. It is learnt that MSETCL’s winning tariff (annual transmission charges) for Saswad is Rs.1,380 million.
On the same date, MSETCL also acquired another intrastate-TBCB scheme “Umred Power Transmission Ltd” quoting a tariff of Rs.990 million.
These two projects not only mark MSETCL’s debut in the intrastate-TBCB space, but have also made MSETCL the first state transco to enter the power transmission development space under the TBCB framework.
According to available information, the Saswad intrastate project is scheduled to commission within 18 months from the SPV transfer date, which works out to August 26, 2027.
