Bajel Projects has announced the winning of an EPC mandate from a project SPV of Torrent Power Ltd for building an 400kV AIS substation at Solapur in Maharashtra.

In a communication, Bajel Projects said that the order of undisclosed value involves EPC work of design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, civil work, testing & commissioning work for establishment of the 400/220kV Solapur PS (New) at Solapur in Maharashtra. The work also includes putting up two 400kV line bays at the existing Solapur substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd.

The order is scheduled for completion in 15 months from the date of award, Bajel Projects said.

The EPC mandate was placed by Solapur Transmission Ltd (STL), a project SPV and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Torrent Power Ltd.

Interestingly, this order is believed to be the first EPC order for a 400kV greenfield substation won by Bajel Projects Ltd.

Solapur Transmission Ltd represents Torrent Power’s entry in the power transmission development space. Solapur Transmission Ltd is developing an ISTS scheme, won under the TBCB modality, called “Transmission system for evacuation of power from RE projects in Solapur (1,500 mw) SEZ in Maharashtra.” [SEZ refers to solar energy zone]

The transmission scheme seeks to create evacuation infrastructure for 1.5 GW of power from Solapur solar energy zone (SEZ) in Maharashtra. Apart from the Solapur pooling station, whose EPC contract has been placed on Bajel Projects, the scheme also involves putting up a 400kV double-circuit line, running about 44 km, from the new Solapur pooling station to PGCIL’s existing Solapur substation.
